The home furniture sector in Spain grew by 3.5% in 2015

If there is a sector that has been suffered by the crisis it is the furniture. Cheap prices and recycling have given way to an increasingly volatile market. But it seems that this is changing because the sector grows, for the first time in nine years,  and have appeared new designers for furnishing projects .

According to the Sectorial Observatory DBK, billing for sale in the home furniture last year reached 1,335 million euros, a figure that represents an increase of 3.5% over 2014. This marks a small recovery in the market also it affects exports and imports, which also rise, with figures of 8.0% and 10.7%, respectively.

Where the furniture made in Spain sold? A large majority, 60%, are intended to EU countries, namely are bought by countries such as France, Portugal, Germany and the UK. While the Chinese market is the first source of imports, with 40% of the total.

Reasons for this recovery

According to DBK, who has done this study, those reasons why the sale of movable up after so long recession due to a timid general economic recovery. This results in the improvement of final consumption of households, so that families can allocate some money to renovate the home. Another reason is the reactivation of credit, in addition to the gradual recovery of the housing market, which is explained in many studies so they claim.

Reduced-size companies

Companies engaged in the manufacture and sale of home furniture in Spain are of small size, since over 92% have fewer than ten employees, and only 0.8% have more than 50 employees.

In addition, last year, compared with the previous one, has been a decline in the number of companies, from 12,775 in 2015 compared with 13,302 existing in 2014, so the crisis has forced the closure of some companies in the market unable to meet their expenses and sales. All this has also increased the degree of concentration of the deals on the most important companies, as the top five companies in the sector together in 2014 combined production share of 11.6%.

Forecasts

DBK always dares to give forecasts for the sector based on actual cases and studied. Regarding the furniture business houses forecast an increase in the volume of this, although moderate during 2016. Sales this year could rise 4% in this year, compared with 2015, reaching 1,385 million euros. While exports continue to grow, for the internationalization of companies in this market, and these companies export could reach over 40% next year, a fact that is twice that 2010.
