Tips on interior designs for small houses

Because not all houses are equal and the trend is to have small homes, there are several tricks that can be applied in such spaces to gain amplitude.

Here we explain the tricks used by an interior designer of Mallorca in decorating a small house (furnishing and refurbishment projects in Palma de Mallorca)

White or ocher

For a smaller space look larger light colors are perfect. Not only give warmth to the home but make corners in places with larger spaciousness. The white walls, shelves in ocher, beige cabinets and large structures should be painted or buy in very light colors, in this case houses will breathe and look like something bigger.

Mirrors, without abusing

Another trick is to enlarge spaces incorporating mirrors. Allways without abusing, you can use, especially in small bathrooms, bedrooms and even living rooms. They offer a dynamic perspective and an optical effect to make the space look larger, because they multiply the spaces.

Wardrobes

Although it seems that from the point of view of trends they “aren’t in”, a cupboard on the wall can store lots of things without it protrudes, so the space occupied in a room is null.

Beds with drawers and other

The correct use of space is one of the nightmares when homes are small. In this case, each furniture should be multifunctional, like beds, besides they sleeping function are perfect to storage. It is better to opt for beds that have drawers so everything is well collected and no need to have large cabinets that usually occupy much space.

Harnessing the corners

Usually we are not aware of all situations of what we can take advantage. The corners are empty, places that can be used for much more. For example, put a small shelf for keys, photos and other items that are always in the middle.

Berths desk

The rooms of the kids have changed. Transform small spaces in stylish rooms and beautiful. One of the ways that the child will have everything in small space is to buy a desk used to play and have the bed upstairs, as a berth to be accessed by a staircase next to the desk. Often unique pieces to suit all kinds of rooms.

Cabinets without doors

A priori, it may seem strange, but makes the room look bigger. The doors provide privacy but let us unutilized spaces. Therefore, a proposal is to have cabinets without doors, yes everything must be neat, as it is exposed to view.

5 TIPS FOR DECORATING A LOFT

Lofts can be a really interesting when choosing them to redecorate and transform in a better space. However, you can also become a problem if you do not know how to distribute or use the high space, which in these cases is always limited. Other of the most common problems of this type of spaces is in the amount of light you have, and it is not always enough to feel in a pleasant environment.

Here we want to give you some key tips (most of which I used in a furnishing and refurbishment project in Mallorca) to help you get your become a really cozy place to be fancy. While decorating tips that follow can be used in any other dwelling, I suggest that you consider in the upper floors of the building to convert all the disadvantages into advantages as to make it a lovely space. What do you say, you dare to implement these ideas that we will organize increasing difficulty?

Essential tips to be considered when decorating a loft

Sophisticated and modest furnishings

Regardless of decorative style you’ve chosen to build your loft you consider that the selection of furniture that can be associated with any other and that both transmit serenity and moderation is best to make good use of space. If you choose too flashy designer furniture in large quantities at the end they lose the grace and eventually create a very unpleasant atmosphere in which you will not fell confortable.

Designer Furnishings

Choose the correct furniture.  Industrial furniture or provencal, even nordic design are closely associated with this type of space. While it is true that there are series that are not too flashy, others are really nice and need enough space to be admired. For the characteristics of a loft in case you are going to opt for this type of material, I advise you to do in a very strict and balanced way. Moreover, I would not choose much more than two of such type of furniture in every room. Reload an attic or a loft is the worst thing you can do.

Space distribution

To distribute space properly in an attic is very important. It is preferable to use spacing elements in open spaces and not have too many walls that can reach hovering. The truth is that this section is very important and sometimes, depending on the type of building in which you find yourself just need to throw a wall or even a half wall for better distribution and, therefore, a feeling a lot more confortable.

Use of light

The use of the light is essential in this type of housing. In that sense the installation of roof windows, skylights and any other element that allows the natural light will always be welcome. If you do not plan to work in your attic, then you could choose to include more artificial light in the room. For example, you could put more lamps or ceiling lights place having greater intensity. It is not cheap, but your loft will gain much in comfort and quality of life.

Use of upper space

The garrets just have no place in the areas where the roof has wings. That makes many of the rooms, despite being large and have space available, may have much less living space. Then you have to think about creative solutions and solve this problem. For example, the lower spaces are ideal to put shelves to store toys. Or even convert an old piece of furniture in a shoe that allows you to organize all shoes without taking other spaces. They can also be used as decorative spaces by placing design objects that attract attention.

Decorating a loft is not always easy, but I have to recognize I am a fan of these spaces with a little creativity and information can be converted into real spaces to not only live, but to live with great comfort

Decorative mirrors in interior design

A decorative mirror is highly recommended to use it and also today there are a myriad of options, all recommended for interior designers in Mallorca. There are small, large and even giant size. There is also a wide variety of colors that can fit better or worse with the colors of your home.

Of all types of art, one of the fields that is gaining in popularity quickly, is the interior design. This is in part because people spend a lot of money to build the house of your dreams. And if it’s nice outside, it must be beautiful inside as well. So perhaps increasing popularity.

mirror-interior-design.jpg

The interior design focuses on creating a comprehensive and coordinated space. The color, the style used and other details of the house, will directly affect the overall design and theme of the house. Another specialty of interior designers is to create some space, either a room or a living room, more spacious and attractive. This is another reason why interior designers love the use of mirrors.

Besides its functionality in a house, decorative mirrors also offer an aesthetic that makes it look a different room. Placing mirrors at strategic locations inside the house, you can create ‘illusions’ of a very large space, even if it is small.
When we choose decorative mirrors, there are some things you should take note. Mirrors can see your most beautiful house, but if you choose the color and wrong style can affect the overall decor. Interior designers often choose colors like gold, black or white. Some also choose mirrors that have no color, with or without design transparent framework. Place a mirror or not, you can create big differences in your home.

Depending on the room and purpose, interior designers always try to use mirrors because of their practicality. There are mirrors with wooden frames or iron, so if you are thinking of mirrors outside or near a window, iron looks very aesthetic with the reflection of light. But of course, there are some limitations on wood and iron. The first is that these mirrors that carry these frames, they need a certain subject. For example, a wooden frame look better in a home that incorporates the overall decor wood.

And finally, if you have decorative mirrors at home, it is very important that you have them clean and polished. Bad habits when cleaning the mirrors can damage them and spoil completely the initial desire. Having dirty mirrors in a house also denotes that you have too careful of your home. Remember that it is not only have beautiful decorative pieces, but also clean.

The size and design of the furniture

The decision about the size and design of the furniture has to go hand in hand to the space available in your home, because often people are driven by the decorative, exceeding the capabilities of space or saturating furniture which would result in a space without balance. It is important to imagine the furniture in your room like pieces of a puzzle that must fit perfect and so give greater harmony to your home.

Build a small sketch

Surely when you buy your furniture, you make quick calculations to guess whether or not fit in your home, but it is best  to measure every space you have free. If you do not want to fail, the best is to draw a plane where you indicate the measures and make notes and build a small sketch of how you want to display your home.

Make a budget

You make a preliminary budget for each area of the house, help do not overdo spending. Once you have defined style and budget measures, now you can jump into the adventure of going from store to store to find what you need.

The basics for a good choice:

  • How to Start: A sofa, an armchair, a coffee table and a side is basic to the rooms and what you can start to adapt your home.
  • Function: Think functionality considering how many people live in your home and space you have.
  • Materials: wood, glass, aluminum, wicker, steel, wrought iron and plastic are some of the materials to choose from. The material must be adapted to the use that you’ll give to it and assess whether it can be risky. For example, having a glass table in a home with children is not a good idea.
  • The relationship between price and quality: In many cases the cheapest often it becomme  expensive, because it has little resistance and durability. So better you make more investment considering the quality of what they offer to ensure that your furniture have a good time of use.

Ideas to design the garden

Many gardens are jetlagged by not applying some design and customization. Mallorca is a very good place to have a garden, so if you live there contact with a interior designer in Mallorca for planning your design. The key is to own these spaces where the outdoors is always a claim to offer a different view of the interior.

Space

As always, the first premise when decorating or designing is space. For a larger space, more work and different solutions to those smaller and confined places that  should offer practicality.

What furniture should we choose?

The garden furniture will fit the space we have and the outdoors weather conditions. It must be, therefore, made with more durable materials that can withstand the cold and rain. Thinking in an own and creative style, the furniture should be something similar to the rest of the house so you do not see a completely different corner. A good idea is to repair or restore the actual funiture

Flowers and plants

They are essential in these spaces. It is clear that if the garden is a big one can even do gardening or have trees, but if it is medium or small type, then we will have in mind the type of plant or flowers that we planted. It is best to choose species that require low maintenance for what not need water constantly. Be sure to plant species that fit the climate where the garden is, as aromatic plants, which are very easy to maintain and provide a pleasant odor for the whole house.

Don’t worry if your summer containers are now past their best, because you can perk up your pots with autumn plantings that will give you colour and texture through the cooler months and beyond.

There are two approaches to autumn and winter pots, says Jeremy Hall, group plant buyer for Squire’s Garden Centres, which are holding workshops on how to create an autumn colour barrel on Friday, September 16.

For shadows

If the garden is in a very sunny place, then it is necessary to plant a tree to give shade or use furniture, tents or gazebos type, also are very good.

Colors: Something to consider

You should consider colors when you design your garden. Not everything is good enough, so that, like the interior, can opt for a monochromatic garden, or a color, or two complementary colors that will not quite match.

Lights

It is perhaps one of the parts of the house with less light and who need it most. Without overloading greatly, we can offer colored lights for a less intense lighting but different. Either LED lights which result chromatic varied. In any case, we need lights on the stairs, ceilings and walls and, if there are paths, also between them, so that everything is illuminated.

Trends in furniture and decoration of bathrooms

The bathroom is often one of the rooms of the house cared less. But, conversely, the moisture from the shower and faucet makes your maintenance is really important. In trends in bathroom design, we can play with the space we have. If it is small, light colors will range, in the same way that large mirrors that give a sense of grandeur to be taken into account, as told me Katrin Ackfeld (interior designer in Mallorca)

Furniture in the bathroom

Furniture that apply are increasingly similar to those of living. dark colors, natural wood, vintage style and minimalism to create places with personality. The bathroom is dyed color, besides white and ocher colors for small spaces, green, blue, even black extol these spaces that serve to relax. Here you can find some ideas of an energized bathroom.
For some time, bathtubs have given way to showers design. It seeks to reduce spaces with utensils that are totally comfortable and practical. In this way, the shower occupies a smaller space and the rest of the bathroom is destined to sink, toilet, proper, and object management.

shower-design.jpg
Modernizes shower with jets multipresión, chromotherapy … to offer and create a space in which pure well-being is obtained. We went into the bathroom to dress up but to live experiences of relaxation, away from the world and have what we want to disconnect our reach. As for furniture, are notable elements one piece. From wardrobe, you drawers with mirror fittings including furniture. This brings purity to the bathroom.

Materials in the bathroom

Other materials besides wood, are taken into account to decorate this space. Cement, stone, metal … in addition to touch other than positivism, such as incorporating a plant or flower for display. And include other elements that guests consider part of their life. You can hang pictures, candles, scented stones, colorful mosaics, special decorations …
Moreover, if there really is space, bathrooms recreate similar to those of a beauty salon situations. Lounges, chairs for lounging spaces, two spades separate bathroom. Lockers in the upper regions and designer lamps. What is clear is that every bathroom should be decorated according to the personality and practicality of who will use it.

PROPER PAINT

Paint the smaller spaces in soft and lighter colors to help make the area appear larger.
A small room tends to look smaller, but the large windows, walls light colors and an extensive use of mirrors not only reflect natural light coming from doors and windows. Then the use of mirrors also gives the optical illusion of space, making the room appear larger than it really is. By contrast, the dark colors will make the place itself seems even smaller small.

MIXING patterns and textures

Mix the old and the new, expensive and cheap. There is nothing wrong with the placement of family heirlooms with your modern furniture. All good interior decorators will tell you that the most important aspect of your home decor is that it reflects who you are, your personality, your style and your comfort. The old desk that was your grandfather tells a story. Tells the story of your family and your past. The modern furniture she fell in love and just had to buy also tells a story, present history, and there is no reason why the present and the past can not coexist well together in interior design. This will make your home reflect your personality.
